1. About these terms
MomStory is an iPhone app that makes a copy of a parent's voice and uses it to read bedtime stories to their child. MomStory is operated by Ilia Vasilev, a sole proprietor based in Armenia ("MomStory", "we", "us").
By creating an account or using MomStory, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. Your account
- Adults only. You must be 18 or older — or the age of majority where you live, if that is higher — and the parent or legal guardian of the child the stories are for. MomStory is a tool for grown-ups; it is not made for children to use on their own.
- Your child is a listener, not a user. Your account holds one child profile: a name, an age, boy or girl, and up to three favorite animals. These settings shape the stories. Your child doesn't get an account.
- Sign in with Apple. You sign in with your Apple ID. Keep your device and Apple ID secure — you're responsible for what happens in your account.
3. Your voice and consent
A voice is personal. These rules protect you and the people whose voices you add.
- Only a voice that's recorded by its owner. Each person records their own voice in the app themselves, and they must be 18 or older too. Before recording, they type their full name and agree on the consent screen. After recording, they read aloud a short sentence from our voice partner, Speechify, which checks that the voice reading it is the voice in the recording.
- No uploads, no impersonation. You may not upload voice recordings, copy anyone's voice without their knowledge, or try to get around the voice check. If the voice reading the sentence doesn't match the recording, no copy of the voice is made.
- Consent is recorded first. Your consent is saved with a date and time before your voice recording is sent to our voice partner. Without it, the recording is never sent.
- You can delete a voice any time. We ask our voice partner to erase it right away; this usually completes within 24 hours. How we handle voices in detail: Privacy Policy.
4. Stories and AI
- Library stories are written in advance; when you open one, AI puts your child's name, boy or girl and favorite animals into it, and the plot stays the same.
- Stories you create are written by AI from what you tell it — a theme from our catalog or your own words — and read aloud in a voice you recorded in the app.
- AI can make mistakes. When AI writes a story for you, it is instructed to keep it gentle: nobody dies or falls ill, no fights or attacks, no frightening imagery, no religion, politics or medical advice, and no characters or brands that belong to someone else — if you name one in your story idea, it is replaced with an original character. It follows these rules, but not perfectly. Please listen with your child in mind, and delete any story that isn't right.
- Stories are not advice. A story about fears or feelings is meant to comfort, not to replace a doctor, therapist or teacher.
5. Plans and payment
Free
The MomStory library to read aloud yourself — the same stories as on Gold — plus 3 stories in your voice in total (not per month) and 1 voice. No time limit and no card needed.
Gold
30 voiced stories a month; the count renews each month on the day you pay for Gold. Up to 5 voices. Gold is a monthly or a yearly subscription; its price is set in the App Store and shown in your local currency on the payment screen before you buy. There is no free trial.
How billing works
- Payment through Apple. You buy Gold in the app, and Apple charges your Apple ID. We never see your card.
- Renews automatically at the end of each period, until you cancel.
- Cancel any time in your App Store subscription settings, at least 24 hours before the period ends. Gold stays until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its own rules. If Apple refunds a Gold purchase, Gold ends right away.
- Daily limits. To keep MomStory running for everyone, each account can, per day, have up to 30 story texts written (every rewrite counts as one) and up to 30 library stories personalized for your child. A day here runs from midnight to midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). One story can be rewritten up to 10 times.
If you leave Gold
Your stories stay in your library and your voices stay saved. You lose the monthly Gold stories, and you can't record a new voice while your account already has one. Any free stories you had left stay as they were.
We may change prices. A new price applies only from your next billing period, and Apple will let you know before it does.
6. Inviting friends
Your profile has a personal invite link you can share with family and friends. It opens an invitation page on momstory.app, where your friend continues with Apple to create their MomStory account, then gets the app and signs in there with the same Apple ID.
A friend counts only if their MomStory account was created on that invitation page — an Apple ID that already had a MomStory account doesn't count — and only when their own Gold subscription starts; creating the account and installing the app is not enough on its own. Each friend who counts earns you one month of Gold, up to three months in total. A friend who has counted stays counted, even if they later cancel their subscription or get a refund. Your profile shows how many friends have joined through your link, how many of them are on Gold and how many months you have earned.
How you get your month
- On Free: we switch Gold on for you for one month. There is nothing to pay and nothing to claim. If a month from us is already running, the next one starts when it ends.
- Already paying for Gold: you get a free month as an Apple promotional offer. Claim it in the app, and Apple makes the next month of your subscription free — on a yearly plan, the first month after your current year ends. Apple allows one promotional offer at a time, so a further month is claimed after the previous one has been used.
- Gold that is set not to renew: we add a month of Gold from us after your paid period ends.
The invite link is for inviting real people. Creating accounts that are not real people, or posting your link as spam, is a breach of these terms, and we may close the account.
7. Using MomStory well
Please don't:
- use MomStory to break the law or to harm, harass or deceive anyone;
- ask for stories with hateful, sexual or violent content, or use the stories to impersonate someone;
- copy, resell or publicly distribute MomStory stories for money;
- try to take the app apart, get around its limits or checks, or access other people's accounts.
If an account breaks these rules, we may limit or close it.
8. Your content
- Your voice stays yours. We use the copy of your voice only to read your stories. We never sell it, we never use it to train AI models, and we never use it for ads.
- Your stories are for your family. You may play, keep and share the stories you make with family and friends for personal, non-commercial use.
- Sharing a story by link. When you share a story from the app, anyone who has the link can listen to it, and they can pass the link on. Your child's name is heard in the story, so please share it only with people you trust. A link stops working when you delete the story, rewrite its text or delete the voice that read it, and we may switch a link off after someone reports it, without giving a reason. How we handle shared stories: Privacy Policy.
- What you allow us to do. To run MomStory, we need to store and process what you give us — your recordings, your child's settings and the themes you type — only to make and play your stories. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
- Videos you share on momstory.app. If you take part in our creator programme, you may share a video of your child listening to a MomStory story on momstory.app/share-video. By sending it, you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child in the video and have the right to share it, and you allow us to show the video, the name you chose, your promo code and the link to your post on momstory.app, free of charge, until you delete the video or your account. How we handle these videos: Privacy Policy.
- We decide what is shown. We review every video before it appears, and we may decline to publish it or take it down at any time — for example, when someone asks us to — without giving a reason.
- Mark paid posts as ads. If you get a reward for people who join MomStory with your code, mark your posts about MomStory as advertising, for example with #ad.
- Laws about children in paid content. Some places, including some US states, have special rules for content that shows children and earns money — for example, limits on how often a child may appear, or a duty to set aside part of the earnings for the child. You are responsible for following the laws of the place where you live.
- MomStory itself — the app, its design and the library stories — belongs to us.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account in the app any time: Profile → Delete account, then type DELETE to confirm. Your account data is removed from our database immediately; files and the copies of your voices at our voice partner are deleted right after, usually within 24 hours. Database backups are overwritten within 30 days. What remains is described in our Privacy Policy.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Gold subscription. Cancel it in the App Store too, or Apple will keep charging you.
10. Warranties and liability
We work hard to make MomStory reliable and kind, but we provide it "as is". We can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that a copied voice will sound exactly like the original.
To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or unexpected losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.
11. Apple
You get MomStory through the App Store. Your use of the app is also covered by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms are between you and MomStory, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app, its content, support or any claims about it, and Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries.
12. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms as MomStory grows. When we change these terms, we post the new version on this page before it takes effect and update the date at the top. Continuing to use MomStory after the new version takes effect means you accept the new terms.
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Armenia. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Armenia, in the place where the provider resides.
This choice of law does not take away any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of the country where you live. Wherever you are, the consumer-protection rules of your own country continue to apply alongside these terms.
